“Making a difference requires ethics, creativity and tenacity. If any of those are lacking, it’s not good enough. Everyone here feels that way.”
Bob Wise is Associate Principal at Cogan Owens Greene, LLC. Bob is our resident advisor, sage, international sustainability emissary, mentor, and seasoned planning and sustainability professional. He focuses relentlessly on defining the social, economic, and environmental benefits of plans and projects. Bob is a rare blend of visionary, strategist and policy wonk and has a unique ability to draw out unspoken needs, concerns and constraints and present them in a new and fresh way.
Bob’s passion for sustainability and state and local policy planning extends back to the 1970’s when he served as Planning Director for the Governor of Idaho. He has served in a range of high profile advisory roles, including to four U.S. Governors (New York, Idaho, Arizona and Oregon), and served for several years as Executive Director of the Council of State Planning Agencies/National Governor’s Association — a national “think-tank” for U.S. Governors. He also chaired and co-chaired the Sustainable Development Commission for Portland for almost ten years.
Bob has served in several positions with COG since 1998. He has received recognition not only for his work in Oregon, but for cutting-edge work globally in Langfang and Hangzhou, China and Taipei, Taiwan. These projects were particularly exciting for Bob because of his passion for Asian culture, poetry and philosophy. Bob is an avid gardener, cook, hiker and fly fisherman. He volunteers his time for causes such as the Columbia Land Trust and the Tigard Grange.
