Mari, Planning Associate, specializes in community and civic engagement. She strives for processes and efforts to build more equitable communities, and is also an advocate for the undocumented community through non-profits, including DREAM Iowa and Latina Leadership Initiative of Greater Des Moines, IA. Her parent’s and personal immigrant life’s story is the root for her advocacy work for the undocumented and immigrant community, motivating her to organize and advocate for fair treatment for immigrant families, regardless of immigration status.
In addition, Mari has worked in land use planning and marketing capacities. Her experience includes reviewing site plans for new development projects, preparing maps and graphics, and reviewing zoning and subdivision ordinances. She is well versed in marketing strategies and processes for creating, communicating and delivering offerings that have value to customers/clients. Currently, she is working with the Fair Housing Council of Oregon, to review proposed comprehensive plan amendments that have Goal 10 implications. Mari is currently completing her Master of Urban and Regional Planning from Portland State University.
