The president of Portland State University (PSU) upon his inauguration is hosting with the Mayor of Portland a symposium on the relationships between the University and the City. The symposium will take place April 30 and May 1 at PSU. Cost: Day 1 – $50, Day 2 – $25. View April 30 and May 1 agendas.
Bob Wise is chairing the panel discussion, “Innovation: Technology, Urban Policy, and Business Models,” to explore innovative concepts of sustainability and how the University and the City can work together. Panel members include: Susan Anderson, Director, Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability; Tim Smith, Principal, SERA Architects; Jim Winkler, President, Winkler Development; and Kent Snyder, Board of Councilors, China-US Center for Sustainable Development.

Elaine Cogan has been invited to present a three-hour workshop, Polished Professional Presentations, at the annual conference of the American Planning Association (APA) in Minneapolis April 25. She also will participate in a panel discussion on “Tips for Working with Local Officials.” Arnold Cogan, FAICP, will be a speaker in a discussion on the subject, Using Planning Consultants During Lean Times. Guest Speakers: David Siegel, FAICP, is a senior planner and project manager for Otak with over 30 years of experience in public and private sector planning. Dave recently completed his term as President of the American Planning Association. Joe Dills, AICP, has more than 29 years of professional experience and is Otak’s principal for public services planning. He specializes in land use planning, public involvement, transportation and growth management.
They will speak with us about their current work on an eight-month planning process for the Abu Dhabi Metro Area of the United Arab Emirates. The Otak team is designing a spatial development management program to ensure that current and future growth complies with its sustainable vision for 2030.
The forum is moderated by Arnold Cogan, FAICP, Planner-in-Residence in the Nohad A. Toulan School of Urban Studies and Planning.
This forum will be webcast live and archived for future viewing. As in past forums, the event will stimulate spirited conversation, focus our expectations on the role of planning in the future and provide students, faculty and others with new insights.
